AstraZeneca PLC (AZN) has introduced a new prescription coupon program, called the Nexium Savings Card, which provides a month's supply of prescription medications to eligible patients for up to two years. The program is available to patients without insurance, and is the first of its kind for the drug’s manufacturer, AstraZeneca. The coupon program is designed to reduce the number of patients who need to be eligible for the coupon, and to help eligible patients get the medications they need for life.
The coupon program will also help patients save up to one-year savings on the medication, as long as they are covered by their health insurance. Patients will also be able to use the coupon card to save up to one-year savings on the medication when they enroll in the program.
“The Nexium Savings Card is the first in our long list of important savings that patients can enjoy when they receive coupons,” said PLC Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John R. Kaul, in a press release. “This program is an important part of our long-term success in providing savings to our patients.”
AZN’s Nexium Savings Card is a special savings card designed to help patients save on medications such as Nexium, a prescription medicine used to treat heartburn and acid reflux. With an eligibility period of six months, patients who have an insurance plan, and who have insurance coverage for Nexium, will be eligible to receive the savings card when they receive the medications. The coupon will help patients save up to one-year savings on the medication. The program will not affect the eligibility of patients using a prescription drug or the availability of discounts or coupons on the drug.
The Nexium Savings Card is not intended to be used as a savings card for Nexium. Patients who have insurance coverage for Nexium, and who are eligible to use the coupon program, will be eligible to receive the savings card when they enroll in the program.

But what if you want to eat a more balanced diet while taking nexium? The good news is that there’s growing evidence that eating a diet rich in nuts, seeds and legumes can reduce the risk of certain conditions.
Nexium, also known as esomeprazole, is a prescription drug commonly used to treat conditions like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), stomach ulcers and other gastrointestinal disorders. But research on its use has been mixed, with some studies suggesting that it may reduce the risk of heartburn and other stomach ulcers.
In a new study, led by researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Washington, the researchers examined the effects of eating a diet high in nuts, seeds, legumes and other plant-based foods on patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease.
“The research shows that eating a diet high in nuts, seeds and legumes can reduce the risk of heartburn and other stomach ulcers,” said lead author Dr. Jonathan Cohen, a gastroenterologist at the University of Washington.
Cohen and his colleagues examined the effect of a diet high in nuts, seeds, legumes and other plant-based foods on patients with heartburn. They found that patients who took a diet high in nuts, seeds and legumes had a 44% lower risk of gastric ulcers.
The study involved more than 8,000 patients with H. Duvelle-SleepingHibis syndrome and other conditions.
“The results show that eating a diet rich in nuts, seeds and legumes can reduce the risk of gastric and duodenal ulcers, which can be a common side effect of antacid therapy,” said Cohen.
The study, led by researchers from the University of Washington, and the University of California, Los Angeles, examined the effect of a diet high in nuts, seeds and legumes on patients with GERD, and other conditions.
The researchers found that patients who took a diet high in nuts, seeds and legumes had a 23% lower risk of gastric ulcers, compared to those who took a diet high in seeds or legumes alone. But the researchers also found that those who took a diet high in seeds and legumes had a 23% lower risk of ulcers compared to those who took a diet high in seeds alone.
The researchers also found that those who took a diet high in legumes had a 25% lower risk of gastric ulcers compared to those who took a diet high in seeds or legumes alone.
The researchers said that the findings are encouraging and warrant further research. “In patients with GERD and other conditions that may be caused by an excess of these foods, we are suggesting that eating a diet rich in nuts, seeds and legumes can reduce the risk of gastric and duodenal ulcers,” said Cohen.

Patients were randomized to one of two diet groups: a diet high in nuts, seeds and legumes; or a diet high in seeds or legumes alone.
Patients in the diet group were given either Nexium 40 mg, a drug taken by mouth for acid reflux, or placebo. Patients in the Nexium 40 mg diet group were given Nexium 40 mg for the treatment of acid reflux and acid reflux associated with GERD. Patients in the placebo group were given placebo for the same duration.
The researchers found no difference in the rates of heartburn, gastric ulcers or duodenal ulcers between the two groups. But the researchers also found that those who took a diet high in seeds or legumes had a 23% lower risk of gastric ulcers compared to those who took a diet high in seeds or legumes alone.

Directions
Nexium Control should be taken every day at the same level as the dose of antacid. Take it at the same time each day. You should take it on an empty stomach, usually 2-3 times a day. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you know when you need it first notice the maximum. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. Follow the dosage instructions provided by your doctor. Do not take more than one dose at a time. Nexium Control is a once-daily antacid containing the same active ingredient as regular antacids, but this time take a different component.
Warnings
Do not use Nexium Control if you are pregnant or breastfeeding without first consulting your doctor or pharmacist. Nexium is indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It belongs to a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). Nexium works by decreasing acid production in the stomach. It is particularly effective in treating erosive reflux disease (such as reflux, erosive esophagitis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease) in patients who cannot tolerate or do not respond to standard therapy.

Nexium contains esomeprazole, which is used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers. This medication can reduce the frequency of esophageal reflux.
In patients with a history of peptic ulcer disease, esomeprazole is also recommended to prevent peptic ulcers. Esomeprazole is also used to treat patients with Zollinger-Kettering syndrome (caused by Helicobacter pylori).
